ETHIBION® – Vitamin B1, B6 & B12 BP
COMPOSITION
Available in 2 dosage forms
Ethibion® Tablet: Each film coated tablet contains Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1) BP 100 mg, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) BP 200 mg, and Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) BP 200 mcg.
Ethibion® IM Injection : Each 3 ml ampoule Contains Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1 ) BP 100 mg, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) BP 100 mg, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) BP 1000 mcg.
PHARMACOLOGY
Ethibion is a combination of Thiamine HCI (Vitamin B1), Pyridoxine HCI (Vitamin B6) & Cyanocobalamin(Vitamin B12). These vitamins play essential role as co-enzyme in the metabolism of nervous system. Thus this combination normalizes the nerve cell metabolism.
Ethibion supports the regeneration of nerve fibers and myelin sheath by activation of the metabolism and the natural repair mechanism. The combination of these 3 vitamins shows better efficacy than of the individual component. In addition, Vitamin B1, B6 & B12 promote body’s own repair mechanism and work in pain management.
INDICATION
Chronic pains like sciatica, lumbago, trigeminal neuralgia, facial paralysis, optic neuritis as well as neuropathy & cardiac complications, besides these, deficiency exists of these relevant vitamins.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Ethibion Tablet: 1-2 tablets three times daily.
Ethibion Injection: In severe cases, 1 ampoule daily until the acute symptoms subsides. Foe milder cases & follow up therapy 2 or 3 should be injected weekly.
CONTRAINDICATION
It should not be used in patients on levodopa therapy.
PRECAUTION
This combination (Vitamin B1 + B6 + B12) should be avoided in case of hypersensitivity to thiamine, cobalt or any other component of these ingredients. Cyanocobalamin should not be given before a diagnosis has been fully established because of the masking symptoms of sub-acute degeneration of the spinal cord.
SIDE EFFECT
Very rarely hypersensitive reaction and sensitivity disturbance may occur.
USE IN PREGNANCY
Ethibion is safe for pregnant women.
USE IN LACTATING MOTHER
It is not known whether thiamine (Vitamin B1) is excreted in breast milk or not , but may be taken cautiously during lactation. There is no known adverse effect of vitamin ‘B’ complex.
DRUG INTERACTION
Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) reduces therapeutic effect of levodopa but it does not occur if a dopa decarboxylase inhibitor is also given. Neomycin, chloramphenicol, aminosalisylic acid & histamine H2 receptor antagonist may reduce Vitamin B12 absorption.
