Etratab® Vet Bolus
Oxytetracycline BP 500 mg
COMPOSITION
Each bolus contains Oxytetracycline BP 500 mg.
MODE OF ACTION
Etratab® Vet Bolus prevents cell growth by inhibiting translation. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and prevents the amino-acyl tRNA from binding to the A site of the ribosome. The binding is reversible in nature. Oxytetracycline is lipophilic and can easily pass through the cell membrane or passively diffuses through porin channels in the bacterial membrane.
INDICATION
Etratab® Vet Bolus is indicated for the treatment of following diseases:
Cattle, Buffalo, Sheep and Goat: Anthrax, hemorrhagic septicemia, black quarter, rinderpest, brucellosis, pyebnephritis, calf scour, infectious enteritis, malignant edema, dysentery, pneumonia, navel ill, liver infection, abscess, mastitis, pyometra, metritis, peritonitis, leptospirosis, infectious pleuropneumonia, calf diphtheria, castration, paratyphoid, foot-rot, salmonellosis, actinomycosis, anaplasmosis and secondary infections in FMD.
Dog, Cat: Pneumonia, pleurisy, bronchitis, infectious enteritis and secondary infections in distemper.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Cattle/Buffalo/Horse: 1 bolus/100 kg body weight for 5 consecutive days.
Calves/Goat/Sheep: 1/2 bolus/50 kg body weight for 5 consecutive days.
Dog/Cat: 1/4 bolus/3 kg body weight for 5 consecutive days.
Or, as per direction of Registered Veterinarian.
CONTRAINDICATION
Etratab® Vet Bolus is contra-indicated to use with calcium containing drug or food
SIDE EFFECT
General toxicity is low although collapse has been reported with tetracycline in weak and debilitated animals.
Although reports of adverse reactions associated with oxytetracycline administration include restlessness, ataxia, trembling, swelling of eyelids, ears, muzzle, anus and vulva (or scrotum and sheath in males), respiratory abnormalities (labored breathing), frothing at the mouth, collapse and possibly death. Some of these reactions may be attributed either to anaphylaxis (an allergic reaction) or to cardiovascular collapse of unknown cause.
USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Etratab® Vet Bolus should not be used during pregnancy because of the risk of hepatotoxicity in the mother as well as the effects on the developing fetus. Use in pregnancy and lactation may result in impaired bone growth and reduce milk production.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD
Meat-7 days, Poultry meat-2 days & Eggs-4 days
STORAGE
Store away from light in a cool and dry place.
Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
PACK SIZE
Each carton contains 3 strips of 6 boli each.
